How does the diagnostic probability feature work?

MindMetrix calculates diagnostic probabilities based on patient responses to validated psychiatric rating scales. The algorithm weighs symptom patterns and severity to generate a probability score for over 60 DSM-5 conditions. These probabilities are not diagnoses—they’re designed to support clinical decision-making by identifying which conditions may warrant closer evaluation. View our full formula.

Can MindMetrix be used for both initial assessments and ongoing care?

Yes. Clinicians use MindMetrix both at intake to inform diagnosis and treatment planning, and periodically during care to monitor symptom progression or treatment response. The platform supports longitudinal tracking of patient symptoms over time through our feature, refresher testing, which we recommend administering every 6-12 months.

How long does it take for a patient to complete the assessment?

On average, the full assessment takes around 30-60 minutes to complete. The time may vary slightly based on patient age, reading level (5th grade for adolescent version, 7th grade for adults), or breadth of symptoms.

What patient populations does MindMetrix support?

MindMetrix offers assessments for both adults (18+) and adolescents (13–17). The adolescent version includes a collateral report from a guardian or parent to capture behavioral concerns from multiple perspectives.

Can MindMetrix help with billing and documentation for CPT codes?

Yes. MindMetrix supports billing for psychological and psychiatric assessments, including 96130 (psychological testing evaluation by a physician or other qualified health care professional). Reports contain the structured information often required for documentation and justification. Our team is dedicated to ensure billing success from day one and happy to hop on a call with you.

How is MindMetrix different from other screening or assessment tools I’ve used?

MindMetrix stands out by offering broad screening for over 60 DSM-5 conditions in a single sitting, helping clinicians prioritize care with diagnostic probabilities. It includes a QuickChart tool to streamline EHR documentation and supports both patient and collateral input for teens. Backed by peer-reviewed rating scales, the assessment is easy to send, simple to interpret, and can be completed on any device. Best of all, it was built by psychiatric clinicians—not just techies—so it actually works the way your practice does.

How do I invite patients to complete the assessment?

From your provider dashboard, click “Invite Patient” and enter their name and email address. You’ll be prompted to select adult or adolescent. For adolescents, you'll also enter a guardian’s email to initiate the collateral portion first.

Can I review the patient's itemized responses or just the summary report?

Both. You can view the summary report with diagnostic probabilities and narrative insights, or download the raw responses report, which shows each question and the patient's response.

Does MindMetrix flag suicidality?

Yes. The platform includes screening questions for suicidality and flags concerning responses in the report. Clinicians are notified of Moderate or High risk responses on C-SSR. However, it’s not an emergency or crisis response tool—clinicians must still use clinical judgment and appropriate protocols when risk is identified.

When is the best time to administer MindMetrix?

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, but we typically recommend administering MindMetrix after your initial visit, once you've gathered background and clinical impressions. Then, during the follow-up, especially when considering medication or treatment planning, the report can help guide and support your decisions.

How should I explain the assessment to patients?

We recommend giving patients a brief heads-up when you’re ordering the MindMetrix assessment. A simple way to introduce it is:

"Before our next visit, I’d like you to complete an online mental health assessment. It helps screen for a wide range of mental health conditions, and gives me a clearer picture of what you’re experiencing so I can better tailor our care.”

You can also explain that MindMetrix gathers detailed symptom data and screens for over 60 DSM-5 conditions. Let patients know that completing the assessment gives you meaningful data to guide diagnostic decisions.

Should I share the report with my patients?

Yes, we generally recommend sharing the report with patients. MindMetrix reports are thoughtfully worded to ensure they do not imply a diagnosis. Instead, they offer a data-driven overview of symptom patterns to support your clinical decision-making.

Because some reports can be lengthy or include sensitive information, we suggest reviewing the report with your patient before sharing it directly. This allows you to provide context, answer any questions, and highlight the most relevant findings in a supportive, collaborative way. Ultimately, use your clinical judgment to determine what’s most appropriate for each individual patient.
